ST. AUGUSTINE, FL. – The driver of a big rig tractor trailer died early Saturday morning, August 14, when his semi truck burst into flames after hitting some trees alongside Interstate 95 near St. Augustine, Florida. The accident happened shortly after 1 a.m. one mile south of state road 16 and the Saint Augustine Outlet Malls.

St Augustine is in St. Johns County, Florida in the northeastern part of the state, about 39 miles southeast of Jacksonville, 53 miles north of Daytona Beach and about 73 miles northeast of Gainesville.
Florida Highway Patrol said that Walter Eugene Dixon, 52, of Jacksonville was driving a semi-truck northbound just south of Florida 16 when the big rig hit a wet ditch, then collided with the treeline. The tractor trailer then jackknifed, went into the grass on the right shoulder and caught fire killing the driver.

The cause of the crash is still under investigated at this time.
