Tractor-Trailer Jackknifes into a Ford Taurus

GREENVILLE, SC – A Ford Taurus was hit and dragged for several feet by an unhooked trailer. A tractor-trailer, driven by Melvin Miller of Kannapolis, North Carolina, flipped over on a ramp on Interstate 385 at mile maker 51 in Greenville County, South Carolina and the trailer separated from the cab before hitting the Taurus. Miller has been charged with driving too fast for conditions.

Comments from Our Trucking Attorneys

A jackknife incident is always preventable. Truck drivers are taught to keep their vehicle under control, both in terms of speed and braking. A jackknife occurs when the vehicle is going too fast and the truck driver applies his brakes in a panicked manner causing the tractor to slow down faster than the trailer and the trailer to swing around. Professional truck drivers should know how to avoid this problem. We have handled a number of cases involving jackknifed tractor-trailers. To review our case results, click here.
